A complete and effective training includes both the physiological preparation of the athlete and his/her cognitive training. An important part of this psychological training is the development and strengthening of the athlete's ability to focus (in the broad sense of attention).
Focus is the ability to pursue intentional spiritual effort in a particular situation. For example, a footballer will concentrate on calculating the appropriate speed that he will need to develop just before performing a corner shoot etc.
